I found the book very comprehensive, and have already tried some of the exercises on my students, with success! The 8 topics are all relevant to today’s preoccupations in the business world (making deals, Corporate social
responsibility, etc), and are well detailed into the 6 parts each time, with the various sections (grammar, speaking, writing, etc). The students found the Case Study about ‘Big Jack’s Pizza’ on Page 42 very pertinent, and they were able to relate to that easier than if it had been an abstract case.
The DVD-Rom is great too. The students enjoyed watching the videos, then reading the transcripts to help them with any sentences they had missed. They are fun videos, so capture their attention very well. For instance, the job interview video was amusing for my younger students who are not yet working, and made them think about dos and don’t when going for a job interview. The business dilemmas allowed them to practise the language further, through problem-solving. I haven’t done any of the Tests on the DVD-Rom yet, but they look very interesting too.
All that, plus the great Powerpoint slides and other material from the book available on the Macmillan website, make this book very attractive to teach business English.
